Prescribing for Health Professionals

NOTE: This course is exclusively available to existing employees of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

Successfully completing the Prescribing for Health Professionals programme empowers healthcare professionals to grow in their clinical practice and enhances career progression.

This programme, a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) regulated professional qualification, is specifically designed for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (physiotherapists, paramedics and podiatrists). The curriculum is tailored to meet the unique needs of Northumbria Healthcare and the challenges faced in contemporary clinical practice.

Upon applying, candidates must be approved by the non-medical prescribing leads at Northumbria Healthcare to ensure the programme aligns with their role and that appropriate support and supervision are in place. The programme is fully funded, and staff will be granted study days to attend.

The 18-week face-to-face programme is delivered at the academy, with 100% attendance required. It is led by senior clinical lecturers, all with master’s qualifications in teaching and experience in nurse prescriber practice alongside experts from the University of Sunderland and Northumbria Healthcare pharmaceutical team.

Cohorts are available in March and September.
